Celebrating 50 Years in Mountaineering Service

Last year, Sherpa Society Trekking & Mountaineering reached a truly extraordinary milestone: 50 years of guiding adventurers through the majestic landscapes of Nepal. Established in 1973, our journey has been half a century in the making, a testament to resilience, passion, and the unwavering spirit of our incredible team.

To honor this golden anniversary, we recently held a private, heartfelt gathering – a momentous occasion dedicated to the very backbone of our success: our dedicated guides and the communities we cherish. Laughter, shared stories, and the clinking of glasses filled the air as we reflected on five decades of safely leading countless individuals to awe-inspiring heights and unforgettable experiences. The centerpiece of our celebration, a specially crafted anniversary cake, symbolized the sweet journey we’ve shared, and many photographs were taken to capture the joy of the day.

Honoring Our Pillars: Awards for Dedication and Excellence

At the heart of Sherpa Society lies the profound expertise and unwavering commitment of our guides. It was a profound privilege to shine a spotlight on those who have shaped our legacy:

We were particularly delighted to present a special award to Mohan Singh Rai for his longest continuous service. His dedication over many years has been a true inspiration, embodying the enduring spirit of Sherpa Society.

Recognition was also given to our Best Performance Guides, whose exceptional skills, leadership, and positive attitudes consistently ensure our clients have the safest and most enriching journeys:

  • Ang Nuru Sherpa
  • Laxam Kaji Rai
  • Sudip Rai
  • Roshan Rai
  • Raju Giri
  • Padam Rai
  • Dawa P. Sherpa
  • Bina Kapali

These individuals represent the pinnacle of professionalism and passion in Himalayan guiding, and we are immensely proud to have them as part of the Sherpa Society family.

A Legacy of Contribution: Certificates for Our Senior Guides

Our history is built on the foundations laid by those who came before. We were honored to present Certificates of Contribution to our Senior Guides, whose wisdom, experience, and tireless service during their tenure have been invaluable:

  • Norbu Thule Sherpa
  • Jangbu Sherpa
  • Nwang Lhakpa Sherpa
  • Nawang Jangbu Sherpa

Their dedication has not only shaped our company but has also enriched the lives of countless trekkers, fostering a deep respect for the mountains and the Sherpa culture.

Giving Back: Our Commitment to Community and Environment

Beyond the celebrations, our 50th anniversary was also an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to the communities that sustain us and the environment we call home. As part of our anniversary commemorations, Sherpa Society was proud to present cheques to vital social causes:

  • Khumbu Yambu Samaj (Sherpa community Kathmandu): Supporting our Sherpa community, many of whom reside in Kathmandu, is a cornerstone of our philosophy. This contribution aims to bolster their well-being and cultural preservation efforts.

  • KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Educational Project): We firmly believe in sustainable tourism. Our donation to KEEP underscores our dedication to educating and empowering locals and visitors alike to protect Nepal’s pristine natural environment.

  • Yambu Samaj (Sherpa community): Further supporting the broader Sherpa community, this contribution reflects our gratitude and ongoing commitment to their welfare and cultural heritage.

Looking Ahead: The Next 50 Years

As we embark on our next half-century, we remain steadfast in our mission: to craft unforgettable, safe, and responsible adventures in the Himalayas, guided by the best in the business, and always with a deep respect for the people and the environment of Nepal.

Thank you to everyone – our guides, our clients, our partners, and our community – for being an integral part of the Sherpa Society journey. Here’s to many more years of shared adventures!
