Bigu Gompa
Description
Bigu Gompa, below Rolwaling Himal is a village hilly trek below 3500 meter altitude level and can experience local culture and excellent mountain view. It is one of the best place to explore though it is not that popular as Annapurna, which means a PERFECT place to be with local. It is normal average hilly area where you can see the local village daily life of hardworking people struggling to make a living with possible infrastructures. From the high view point, you see the whole range of east centre Himalaya including Rolwaling Himal which include Melungtse, 7181m and Melungse II, 7023m and Gauri Shanker 7134m and many other 6000 meter peaks.
Through the lush green forest, we go to Bigu Gompa which is very unique Buddhist monastery in this place and popular as nunnery institute which was established by Drukpa Rinboche in 1931. Around 1990s about 120 nuns decreased to 40 and grown to 300 nuns.
Through the high pass Tinsang la (3200m). Breathtaking view of Himalayas including Choba Bamara. The forest is covered by oak, wild bush and rhododendron.

Route itinerary
Journey Begins: From Kathmandu to Charikot via East Araniko Highway
We start our journey from Kathmandu via East Araniko highway which leads to Tibet border. We separate route near Lamosangu to Jiri route. We stop at Charikot about 72 km. about 2-3 hours drive and walk close for camping or lodge incase too late.
Trek Begins: Ascending from Charikot Market Towards Shigati and Along Sorong Khola
Trek start from the middle of the market and the stone staircases gaining altitude. Trek through Shigati or Chilanka by Sorong Khola on side and separate West side leaving Rolwaling, Na, Tso Rolpa route.
Chilanka to Bigu Gompa: Camping by the Village School and Exploring a Unique Monastery
We stay in Chilanka village, normally camp in school compound, so opportunity to know about village school and can support if interested. By lush green wild forest, we go to Bigu Gompa which is very unique Buddhist monastery in this place.
Scenic Ascent to Rupthang via Tinsang La Pass (3,200m) and Descent to Dolangsa
Climb hill to Rupthang from Stupa which is the last habitation before returning through high pass Tinsang la (3200m). Continue to Dolangsa.
Trek to Barabise and Return to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur
Next day trek until Barabise village which is busy local town where we lodge or camp. We drive back to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur if any optional visit require.
