Nestled in the Himalayas on the North-East side of India lies Sikkim. Surrounded by Bhutan, Tibet and India. Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m), the fourth highest mountain in the world stands on its border with Nepal. Sikkim is connected by flight from Bagdora/Silguri or by land travel. It is located in the hilly regions of India where the altitude usually varies from 2000 to 5000 meter.
The 13th century saw the Khampa (often referred to as Bhote) people settled in eastern Nepal as well as in Sikkim (previously held under Nepal) Limbu/Kirati tribes also from eastern Nepal have settled in Sikkim. As a result, the Sikkimese often speak Nepali dialect and follow Nepali culture as Hindu and Northern Tibetan Buddhism.
