Nepal - Treks

Makalu Trek

Description

This is a trek for those who love the mountains and mountain cultures, for those who want to experience a timeless natural environment of high peaks, plunging river gorges, lush vegetation, abundant wildlife, and fascinating traditional cultures in the Makalu Barun National park.

It is most famous as a remote trek which takes you to the world’s fifth highest mountain and deep into some of Nepal’s most unseen and amazing scenery, from the sweeping Arun River Valley, over the Barun La (4200m.) to the icy fields surrounding Makalu (8463m.). This is an extremely isolated area, surrounded by some of the most impressive scenery with Mt.Everest (8450m), Baruntse (7129m) and Chamlang (7319m), dominating a very impressive mountain landscape.

The first few weeks of the trek are an introduction to the colourful ethnic groups of the Himalaya -Rais and Sherpas with terraced farmlands following centuries old tradition. Further on are forests teeming with colourful blossoms, wildlifes and birds. Then the trail enters a remote landscape forgotten by time with no permanent settlements, only a few shepherds tending their livestock.
