This new route trek involves driving to extended road to Shivalaya via Jiri, along the "Friendship Highway" which connects Kathmandu to Lhasa. The trek goes below Rolwaling Himalayan range and culturally diverse area. Many hairpin bends with stunning views of Dorje Lhakpa (6975m), Gauri Shanker (7134m), Langtang, Melung Tse (7033m), Choba Bamara (5933m), Numbur Chuli (6959m), Big Phere Go, Pathibarra and many more other peaks. It passes throughout profound river gorges, frosty lakes, rice fields, subtropical jungle and Sherpa Gaun to the Likhu river glacier. Also get chance to visit Nepal’s first cheese factory, established in 1957 and the famous Thodung Monastery on the way.
During April to May, rhododendrons and wild flowers bloom in abundance. There is a massive chance to see eagles and musk deer as well as Himalayan Thar (goat), a species of goat antelope and many other animals. If lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard. Camping in the wilderness and sometime there will no people enroute.
En route start and end around many villages populated by Brahmin, Chetri, Newar, Tamang and Sherpa people with their unique lifestyles. Religious symbols and structures like Stupa, Chorten (dome shape memorial kind), Mani prayers carved on rock slates can be seen. Sherpa houses are noticed with colorful flags and with herds of cattle, potato field mostly higher area.
Trek back through Nupche Khola and Likhu Khola bed to Gumdel to Thode and drive back to Kathmandu finally.
